Jeweller Catherine really is a “Sailor Girl” and several months every year on her small, white sailboat in warm blue waters.

Back in Toronto, Catherine makes glass beads using the ancient technique of lampworking. She uses a torch to melt rods of glass and winds them around a thin steel rod. She builds up multiple layers of glass, sometimes adding pure silver leaf, and decorates and shapes each bead, one at a time. Once formed, the beads are annealed in a kiln to ensure a lifetime of durability.
