Janet Taylor

Janet’s process is analogous to the layering of memory: marks are veiled, overwritten, or later exposed, revealing traces of their being, but always present. Slowly, the paintings build their own history and develop a sense of place and narrative. She always hopes to communicate, not a portrait of a space, but rather the emotional experience of being in a place and time. 

Janet received a BFA from Queen’s University. After many years in the Toronto area, she recently relocated to Gravenhurst, Ontario.  

“However ordinary the source, the fugitive beauty of an instant catches you and seizes your soul as a perfect moment of existence. It may be a moment of calm or peace, or maybe of excitement, awe or joy—but that right there, that fleeting glimpse of the energy and connection of our world—that’s why I make art.”
